Farewell Dough Hands – and long live Slice Circle, the new pizza residency taking over the kitchen at the Old Nun’s Head in Nunhead come May. Beloved roaming pizza restaurant Dough Hands finished up at the south-east London pub on April 25 after a year-long stint (it’ll be reopening in Hackney next week). Next week, Slice Circle – a Dough Hands alumnus and an ex-Bad Boy Pizza Society on his CV – is replacing it.
Slice Circle is the work of former Dough Hands chef Angus Whitfield and ex-Bad Boy Pizza Society assistant manager Methun Chelvan, who launched the brand in summer 2025 with pop-ups at north London coffee shop Rua. They specialise in 14-inch New York-style pizzas that Whitfield says “offers a light crispy bite, with a juicy crust … We want to capture that famous NYC crunch mouthfeel; sturdy and satisfying with that classic no-flop bake.”
The duo is inspired by both “old-school and new-wave New York pizzerias”, and they’ll be serving five signature pizzas, as well as rotating specials and collaborations. The menu ranges from the simple, like the Red Pie – San Marzano tomatoes, oregano, confit garlic and house-made breadcrumbs – to the more creative, including the Tamil Pie, which nods to Chelvan’s home country of India. It’s made with his mum’s masala vodka sauce, as well as fior di latte, red onion, lemon yoghurt and coriander. And the pair will nod to their new location with the Nun Pie: San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, soppressata, whipped ricotta, hot honey and pecorino.
The pizzas won’t just be for pub-goers – locals can order the pies to take away and eat at home or at Peckham Rye.
Slice Circle opens on May 6 at the Old Nun’s Head, Nunhead. The kitchen will be open from Monday to Saturday.
