Deptford Market Yard is about to get more delicious. Mondo Sando – the sandwich brand founded by Jack Macrae and Viggo Blegvad as a lockdown delivery service – is opening its second standalone site on Friday April 10. And on the opening weekend, (April 10 to 12), customers will get 50 per cent off food.
Called Mondo to Go, the new spot joining other venues under the arches of the ever-evolving Deptford Market Yard development, including Jerk Yard and Taca Tacos – will be takeaway-forward – but also give customers the option to dine in a 50-seat outdoor space.
“After many years working in Camberwell, five minutes from Jack’s flat, it’s only fair we open a site in Deptford, five minutes from Viggo’s,” the pair said in a statement. They opened their first standalone site in Camberwell in 2024, following the success of a run of pub residencies, and the launch of their permanent kitchen at The Grove House Tavern.
Mondo’s most popular sandwiches will be on the menu, including the Mondo Frango – a sesame sub roll packed with juicy peri-peri chicken thigh, pea salsa verde and matchstick fries – and the Mondo Combo, an Italian-inspired combination of two kinds of salami, mortadella, provolone cheese and pickled onion. There’ll also be Deptford-only sandwiches that the team is currently developing.
Sides, including latke tots and house bread and butter pickles, will also be available. To drink, there’ll be pints, slushies, and a rotating mix of house sodas and lemonades.
Cafe Mondo designer Tom Cummings will bring a similar aesthetic to Mondo to Go, featuring Mondo’s signature palette of primary colours – as well as a new iteration of Cafe Mondo’s idiosyncratic Museum of Stones.
Mondo to Go will open on Friday April 10, with 50 per cent off food from April 10–12.
