For one week in August, London’s already-formidable dining scene is taking things up a notch. Dine Out by Broadsheet London – running from August 4 to 10 – is a celebration of the city’s best restaurants, pubs, bars, cafes and bakeries. It’s packed with never-to-be-repeated collaborations with your favourite chefs, special menu items only available for the week, late-night parties and more.
Tickets are selling fast – but if you’re feeling lucky, then enter our competition to win a pair of tickets to an event. There’ll be eight winners in total, each scoring two tickets to one event each.
So what could you win? First up, there’s the return on August 4 of Black Axe Mangal, the currently closed, cult-favourite restaurant by chef Lee Tiernan, who will team up with longtime friend Angela Hartnett for a one-night-only collaboration at Cafe Murano.
Next up, there’s an equally exciting collab, as Quo Vadis hosts a summer house party on August 5 in the upstairs private dining rooms. Jeremy Lee, the chef proprietor of the legendary members’ club and restaurant, is teaming up with The Plimsoll’s Ed McIlroy to create an eel burger – a hybrid of McIlroy’s famous burger, and Lee’s beloved eel sandwich.
On the same night, buzzing Notting Hill pub The Pelican will invite chefs Tom Harris and Jon Rotheram from Hackney’s The Marksman to create what might just be the ultimate pub feast: think seasonal British cooking with signature dishes from both kitchens.
If you’ve been meaning to try Tempo, Eric Wan’s new-wave Asian eatery and wine bar in Bethnal Green, then this could be your lucky day. On August 6, the Dinner by Heston alumnus will be cooking up a seafood feast.
Come Friday, August 7, it’s party time. Islington wine bar Stable Wines will be taking out its tables and staying open until 2am. DJs will be spinning records all night long in the bar’s sultry subterranean space, and this prize includes entry and a welcome drink.
The party continues on Saturday, with a one-off feast by Iranian-Iraqi cafe bistro Logma, served with a side of cabaret. The chef-owners Ziad Halub and Farsin Rabiee will be cooking up a four-course supper at Dalston’s queer cocktail bar Roses of Elagabalus, where diners will be treated to cabaret, followed by a party with DJs.
During that same day, chef Tomos Parry will welcome Rambutan’s Cynthia Shanmugalingam for a summer barbecue at Brat Climpson’s Arch in London Fields. Here, two of London’s most respected live-fire chefs will host an all-day affair which will showcase each restaurant’s distinctive cooking style.
Got a thing for Italian food? So does Ravinder Bhogal, chef and founder of Marylebone’s Jikoni. On Sunday, August 9, she’ll transform her restaurant, known for its borderless approach to cooking, into Cicconi, where she’ll whip up an Italian feast.
